“I have heard that Jesus does the same miracle for each boy who comes to your place. But whether or not you choose to continue is up to you.” - A drug addict about the Society of Stephen, a Christian ministry to the poor and forgotten of Hong Kong.
God is always ready to forgive you and to help you overcome any sin or addiction in your live – you just have to walk it out. Jackie Pullinger’s book “Chasing the Dragon” ends with the above quote which makes you stop and think…
“But whether or not you choose to continue is up to you.” How many times do we think that it’s God’s job to keep us pure or free from addictions? Many Christians quote 1 Corinthians 10:13 about how God will provide a way out of temptation thinking that no matter where I go or what I do, God will get me out of it….
Are we not to walk out our faith with “fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12)?…
I write these words not in condemnation but of self-reflection, for I am as guilt as any in belittling the grace given to me. I must choose to continue in the freedom he has given me. He has already set me free – I’m I dog that returns to his vomit? Or shall I walk out my life as one set free by the power of blood to bring glory to the Lord All Mighty? That is my choice… which shall I make?
May I walk the path of forgiveness once again… Lead on Lord, lead on….
Sometimes we dismiss scriptures as no longer applying to us. One of them is the one that says “I set before you life and death, choose life!”. One verse also says to “not grow weary in well doing”, one says “don’t throw away your confidence…but continue in the will of God”. Lord, help me each day, to choose life! To continue in Your will and in your confidence. Amen.
grace
